Emma Holman-West, Patron, Friends of Stratford Hospital
Let me introduce myself
I am delighted to serve as Patron, and to have the opportunity to support a charity that plays such an important role in the lives of so many people in our community.
My life is deeply rooted in both people and place. I live at Alscot Park with my husband Andrew and our three children, and as the ninth generation of my family to call it home, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to protect its heritage while ensuring it continues to evolve for the future. Alscot has been in my family since 1747, when it was purchased by my ancestor James West, and today it remains not only a historic home, but a living, working estate.
Day to day, my time is split between family life, running the estate, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. I have always had a passion for art, the countryside, and the environment. More recently, that has extended into our regenerative farming journey, as we transition towards organic practices. Alongside this, I enjoy the simpler moments—whether that’s walking my dog Dor or checking in on our herd of Longhorn cattle (with a particular soft spot for one aptly named Little Miss Greedy).
Over the past two decades, I have led the evolution of the Alscot Estate into a diverse and sustainable rural business. Today, it provides homes, employment, and opportunities for a wide range of people and businesses, while also embracing innovation—from flexible workspaces to environmental initiatives such as biodiversity projects, woodland restoration, and regenerative agriculture. Everything we do is centred around balancing heritage with forward-thinking responsibility.
My connection with the hospital began in 2016, when I supported the Friends during a major fundraising campaign to create new cancer and ophthalmology facilities. I was particularly moved by the impact that access to care can have on people’s lives, and the difference that local provision makes to patients and their families. Alongside fundraising, I was closely involved in shaping the internal design of the wards, with a focus on creating an environment that feels as supportive and comfortable as possible during what can be an incredibly challenging time.
Since then, I have remained a committed supporter of the charity and its work. I am continually inspired by the dedication of its volunteers and the quiet but powerful difference they make every day. It is a privilege to now take on the role of Patron, and I hope to help raise awareness of the charity’s work, strengthen community support, and contribute to its future growth.
At heart, I believe in community, in stewardship, and in making a positive and lasting impact—whether that’s through the land we care for, the businesses we support, or the people we help. I look forward to playing my part in continuing this important work.
